WIAA: Our Commitment to Student Athletes

Dairy farmers fuel high school athletes in Washington for over 20 years.

For the past 20 years, the Dairy Farmers of Washington have been proud to be to the co-title sponsors of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and the Smart Choices Scholarship. As co-title sponsors, the dairy farmers have come alongside thousands of high school athletes to celebrate the many triumphs and experiences in sporting events throughout Washington state.

“Supporting high school athletes is a huge honor for each of the dairy farmers our organization represents.”

As former WIAA athlete, Smart Choices Scholarship winner Jenna Moser says, “the WIAA Smart Choices Scholarship kick-started my college career. Throughout the challenging transition from high school to college, this scholarship allowed me to focus on school and becoming a well-rounded student. What excited me most was my reward — the opportunity for continued learning and growth, as I earned a college degree and worked towards my career goals.

“Supporting high school athletes is a huge honor for each of the dairy farmers our organization represents,” says Dairy Farmers of Washington General Manager Scott Kinney. “There is, perhaps, no more sacred image in American sports than the high school athlete.  These are the images that memories are built on and that the Dairy Farmers of Washington are proud to continue to support in the future.”

We know that activities matter.  Kids who participate in high school athletics do better in school, score higher on standardized tests and attend college at far greater rates than peers who do not participate.

WIAA Director Mike Colbrese echoes Kinney’s enthusiasm saying, “we are grateful for the partnership we enjoy with the Dairy Farmers of Washington.  The sponsorship support of the Dairy Farmers of Washington allows us to continue to plan, administer and celebrate high school athletics in Washington State.”

The benefits of high school athletics goes far beyond the tournaments. Colbrese explained, “research shows that students who participate in extracurricular activities have better grades in school, better attendance and improved health and wellness. We know that activities matter.  Kids who participate in high school athletics do better in school, score higher on standardized tests and attend college at far greater rates than peers who do not participate. WIAA thanks the Dairy Farmers of Washington for 20 years of partnership supporting high school athletes in our state.”

WIAA encompasses a incredibly wide range of extracurricular activities. From traditional sports like football and basketball to drama and forensic science. Check out all of the state tournaments to attend one and support your local schools.
