Our new Learning the Basics: Nutrition Edition series features nine health and nutrition topics that include a brief animated video, lesson plan, worksheet, and recipe. Each topic is divided into K-2nd and 3rd–5th grade versions. An enjoyable and engaging way to bring nutrition to the classroom. Assets for each lesson include: a lesson plan, worksheets, a recipe, and engaging videos.
This fun series was created by CWU graduate student Shannen Apresto in Spring of 2021.
Students will learn about the components of a balanced meal using the MyPlate plan. Students will have an increased understanding of the importance of consuming a balanced diet.
Students will learn how to eat with their senses. Students will have an increased understanding of the importance of taking time to enjoy their food.
Students will learn facts about water. Students will have an increased understanding of the importance of water and hydration in their diets.
Students will learn facts about food waste. Students will have an increased understanding of the importance of reducing food waste.
Lesson Focus and Goals: Students will learn facts about and identify various sources of food from each food group. Students will have an increased understanding of the importance of each food group in their diets.
