Sugar Cookies with Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients:
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1-2 Tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 cups flour

Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Tbsp heavy whipping cream
Directions:
  1. For the Cookies: In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the beaten egg yolks.
  2. In another bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add the dry mixture, whipping cream, and vanilla extract to the creamed butter mixture, alternating between dry and wet ingredients.
  3. Chill the dough for one hour.
  4. Roll out the dough to your desired thickness. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters and place on a greased or lined baking sheet. If you’re not planning to frost the cookies, add sprinkles or colored sugar before baking.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Baking time may vary based on your oven.
  6. For the Frosting: Beat the butter in a mixing bowl until smooth and creamy.
  7. Gradually add the powdered sugar and whipping cream, beating until fully incorporated and smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more whipping cream if you prefer a thinner frosting.
